Award winning Artist Coral Hill, has been into the creative arts all her life. Her first artistic influence was as a little girl sitting on her Grandmother's sewing room floor counting buttons, while casting her eyes a round and wanting to touch all the pretty silks and satins she could see peeking out from beneath the heavy old tweeds & flannels.
Once out of school and working, Coral bought fabric and paper patterns and set about teaching herself to be innovative in dressmaking. In her early twenties she was making bridal gowns among other things. However, due to lifes circumstances she was unable to indulge her Art and Craft passions fully until her children were grown and out in the working world.
In 1990 whilst living on the south coast of NSW she commenced a small business, designing and hand screen printing Handkerchiefs, both as Souvenirs and Gifts - Favors - for Guests. Of the many weddings and souvenir customers she had at that time the most prominent was the Parliament House Gift shop in Canberra, ACT, Australia. Also at this time she was developing her skills as an Artist painting in oils, watercolours, fabric paint and other mixed media both on canvas and fabric. Some years later Coral and her husband bought a Bookshop Franchise and during that time she continued to indulge her mixed media artistic passions, albeit, in a very restricted fashion.
When finally released from the demands of their business, Coral got straight back into painting passionately.
Moving to the state of Queensland in 2004, she continued painting in oils and other mixed media, winning various art prizes, and being selected to exhibit works in various competitive prestigious exhibitions.
Many of Coral's original paintings have sold over the years. The ones on display in this web site are presently available for sale. All inquiries should be emailed to Waratah Studio through our contact page.
